Grapher – This is a free application for doing 2-D and 3-D graphs on the Macintosh platform. (For what I normally want to do, I prefer GeoGebra, but I would not have a hard time constructing a scenario where Geometer's Sketchpad would be a good choice.) (All of the reviews I have heard on Audrey Weeks' Algebra and Calculus in Motion are rave.) It is commercial software, but reasonably priced. In the US, it has a lot of pedagogical support and teacher ready material.

It has not developed at nearly the rate GeoGebra is developing. Geometer's Sketchpad – Probably the closest program to GeoGebra in conceptualization. Some of the other programs you mentioned are one of these things, but those programs are not pedagogical programs that allow for dynamic manipulation of algebraic and geometric representations of objects studied in my classes.) (I don't think GeoGebra needs to apologize for not being these other things. It is not a spreadsheet, a tool for writing mathematics, a complete CAS for string and symbolic manipulation, a commercial grade statistical package, or the industry standard in a field where large numbers of my students will spend their futures. (This has a lot of positives, but I am concerned wit feature creep and whether or not the program will become too heavy.) GeoGebra has not yet been embraced by the major publishers, so there is little pedagogical material written in close parallel to the texts I use. As a rule, anything I use for demonstration must be available as an applet for later student use on homework. I tend to use it for creating applets both for visualization and exploration. I like the ability to turn a demonstration into an applet. Since the courses we teach tend to be more algebraic and analytic rather than geometric, the easy connection between algebraic and geometric representations are wonderful.

Plus features, free, cross platform, intuitive, powerful enough to cover demonstration needs from college algebra through single variable calculus. GeoGebra – On this forum, this is the obvious place to start. Computer support form the institution exists, but is not as strong as I would like. Funding for resources are reasonable but tight. My students include math majors, engineering students, a whole lot of premed students who are not fond of math, and general education students. I would note that my comments come from the perspective of a faculty member at a somewhat selective private university in the Unites States. Between the list you posted, the quick follow ups on this list, and other packages I seriously use, I have between 6 and 10 packages that are either the best package in my situation for something I do, or a very good answer in a situations I can think of for a colleague.

Some obvious factors are the level of the course, the related level of resources in the setting, the amount of technical support available, the amount of pedagogical material that is available, the manner of instruction intended, the intended level of access for the students, and how the software usage fits into larger curricular issues.
